The New Orleans Saints have watched the wide receiver market become significantly more expensive, which makes locking up All-Pro Chris Olave to a long-term extension an absolute must before his price climbs even higher.
Over the past year, a number of young star receivers from the 2022 NFL Draft class have reset negotiations across the league.
In 2025, Garrett Wilson landed a four-year, $130 million deal with the New York Jets and Jameson Williams agreed to a three-year extension worth up to $83 million with the Detroit Lions. While Drake London and the Atlanta Falcons agreed to a four-year, $141 million extension and Christian Watson signed a four-year, $92 million extension with the Green Bay Packers within recent months. Every one of those deals has continued pushing the receiver market upward.
For the Saints, the timing couldn’t be more important. New Orleans has already invested heavily in building around its Tyler Shough, and Olave has consistently proven he deserves to be part of the franchise’s long-term future even before Shough arrived. Locking him up long-term as Kellen Moore’s new look offense continues to take shape should be at the top of the Saints’ to-do list.
If they wait until after another potential breakout season, Chris Olave’s next contract may look even more expensive than it could today.
