NFL executives update Marvin Harrison Jr., Josh Sweat trade predictions after Cardinals’ loss to Giants

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. and pass-rusher Josh Sweat were both the subjects of trade rumors before the Cardinals suffered a 36-24 loss at the New York Giants that dropped Arizona to 1-3 this past Sunday.

For a Casino.org piece published on Tuesday, NFL insider Jason La Canfora spoke with executives around the league about how the Cardinals could handle the trade deadline, which arrives on Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. ET.

NFL teams believe Cardinals will give Marvin Harrison Jr. a fresh start?

“Several NFL executives believe Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. will be the next big-name player moved, predicting a deal could be struck before the Nov. 10 trade deadline,” La Canfora wrote. “…The recent first-round pick has struggled to find his footing in Arizona, looking uncomfortable in the offense despite his can’t-miss prospect status out of Ohio State. Several executives believe he will be the next marquee player moved, and that a deal could materialize well before the deadline. He remains cheap on his rookie deal and clearly needs a fresh start.”

Before the Cardinals-Giants game, a report revealed that one team said Harrison would be worth “possibly a quality Day 3 pick.” While he recorded a touchdown reception against the Giants, that was his only catch of the afternoon. Under first-year head coach Mike LaFleur, Harrison tallied five receptions for 85 yards and the one score across the season’s first four weeks.

The San Francisco 49ers, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Las Vegas Raiders and the Indianapolis Colts have been mentioned as potential destinations for Harrison. It’s unclear what a team would be willing to give up to land him roughly a month before the trade deadline.

Executives makes strong Josh Sweat, trade prediction

As for Sweat, he reportedly wants a new contract from either the Cardinals or a different team. According to La Canfora, one general manager said he has heard that Sweat “wants out” of Arizona. Meanwhile, a longtime personnel executive predicted that Sweat won’t be a Cardinals player on the night of Nov. 10.

“The Cardinals have Sweat under contract for two more years beyond this season at $17M annually, so there is no immediate pressure to trade him,” La Canfora explained. “While Arizona has signaled he won’t be dealt, there may be more to the situation. Sweat is unhappy with his contract, and with a run on edge defenders expected as the deadline approaches, interest should be high. Contenders never feel they have enough pass rush, which could trigger a bidding war.”

People associated with the Dallas Cowboys seemingly want it known that the NFC East club wants to add a pass-rusher this fall. Perhaps the Cardinals could work something out with Dallas before a different team calls the Cowboys about a possible trade.
