Petr Yan is looking to end his trilogy with Merab Dvalishvili in decisive fashion at UFC 333.
Yan is defending his bantamweight title in the co-main event of UFC 333 on Saturday in an intriguing fight. The Russian dominated Dvalishvili last December to win the belt, and now the two are set to run it back in their trilogy after Dvalishvili dominated the first fight.
Although they are 1-1, Yan is confident he is much better and plans to prove that on Saturday in a statement win to silence any doubters after their last fight.
“At UFC 333 in Abu Dhabi, I want to win in spectacular, decisive fashion so neither the judges nor the spectators have any questions left about my story with Merab,” Yan said on UFC 333 Countdown.
If Yan does dominate Dvalishvili again, it would be a statement win and would put their rivalry to bed. Back-to-back lopsided losses would make it difficult for Dvalishvili to get another crack at Yan. So, the stakes are high for their UFC 333 fight, and Yan enters the bout with plenty of confidence.
Should Yan get his hand raised and dominate as he expects, it will send a statement to the bantamweight division. It will also prove that the Russian is the legitimate champion and could go on a long reign as champion.
Petr Yan (20-5) is coming off a decision win over Dvalishvili to extend his win streak to four. He’s 11-4 in the UFC, but he never defended the belt, as he lost the title by DQ to Aljamain Sterling in his first title defense. He’s also the former interim UFC bantamweight champion.
