He was in the running for the third tight end spot as training camp wound down, but the Packers instead signed Jonnu Smith and traded for Mark Redman.
Dabney has been with the Packers since signing to the practice squad in November 2025. The 24-year-old was active for the Packers’ Week 17 and 18 regular season games last season.

Ex-Packers wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling released by the Cowboys

Former Packers wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling has been released by the Dallas Cowboys, according to national reports.
Valdes-Scantling began his career with the Packers, spending four years in Green Bay from 2018-2021 totaling 59 games and 39 starts
He had 123 receptions and 13 touchdowns with the Packers. He had a career high 20.9 yards per reception during the 2020 season when the Packers had the No. 1 scoring offense.
Now 31 years old, he’ll be looking for his seventh team of his career.
MVS played five games apiece for the San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers last season. While in Pittsburgh he reunited with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
After leaving the Packers, MVS played two years for the Kansas City Chiefs and then split the 2024 season between the Buffalo Bills and New Orleans Saints.
He had three receptions for 45 yards during the preseason for the Cowboys.

Redman, who played college football at Louisville, went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft and signed with the Rams as an undrafted free agent. He spent last season on the team’s practice squad.
Redman is the second tight end that the Packers are adding after signing veteran Jonnu Smith on Aug. 29.

The Packers are trading for Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kaleb Johnson, according to Tom Pelissero. A third-round pick in 2025, Johnson was stuck in a crowded Steelers backfield that includes Jaylen Warren and Rico Dowdle.
He may find more room to compete for a role with the Packers.

Ex-Packers defensive tackle Colby Wooden has been released by the Indianapolis Colts, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Wooden, a former fourth-round pick by the Packers in 2023, spent the first three years of his career in Green Bay before being traded to the Colts during the offseason. The Packers received linebacker Zaire Franklin in the trade.
Wooden played in all 17 games for the Packers last season.

Jackson was the Packers’ fifth of six players selected in the 2026 draft.
Jackson never gained his footing with the Packers. He missed a large portion of training camp with a core muscle injury.
And in his final audition on Friday night against the Cardinals he performed poorly.
On one drive early in the game, he was beaten for a 19-yard gain and then was beaten for a 41-yard touchdown as wide receiver Simi Fehoko ran right past him.

There’s a strong chance he’ll be back on the practice squad.
The 23-year-old had 13 carries for 64 yards and a touchdown during the preseason.
Nixon joined the Packers as an undrafted rookie free agent following the 2026 NFL Draft. He played five seasons in college, spending the first three years at Oklahoma State, one year at Western Michigan and his final year at Central Florida.
At Central Florida in 2025, Nixon played running back and kick returner. He earned All-Big 12 honorable mention as a kick returner.
He led the team in rushing touchdowns (seven) and was second on the team in rushing yards (554). He also had the team’s first kickoff return touchdown in eight years and totaled 438 return yards on the season.

Welch was also cut by the Packers last August but re-signed to the practice squad. He played in eight games last season but he ended the year on injured reserve after an ankle injury in December.

Tom Pelissero of The Ringer and Netflix first reported Neyor’s release.
Neyor was in his second training camp with the Packers after going undrafted in 2025.
He spent all of last season on the Packers’ practice squad, though he was elevated for the team’s wild card playoff game against the Chicago Bears on Jan. 10.
After the season, Neyor signed a reserve/future contract.
He had a big drop on a deep ball from Kyle McCord during last Friday night’s preseason game.
Whether the 25-year-old lands on the practice squad like last season remains to be seen.

Packers trade Kyle McCord to the Miami Dolphis

The Green Bay Packers are trading Kyle McCord to the Miami Dolphins, sources confirmed to PackersNews.
ESPN initially reported the Packers will receive a 2028 sixth-round draft pick.
McCord played exceptional during the preseason, seeing action in all three games.
The third-string quarterback played the entire game against the Arizona Cardinals on Friday, Aug. 28, and completed 22 of 35 passes for 226 yards with four touchdowns and a 119.5 rating.
Despite his strong play, McCord was likely going to be a practice squad player with the Packers since Green Bay signed Tyrod Taylor in the offseason for the backup job.
But now, McCord gets a chance to be a backup.
And he’ll be playing behind former Packers quarterback Malik Willis in Miami. The Dolphins were in need of a backup after they traded Quinn Ewers to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday, Aug. 29.
Miami’s addition of McCord adds to the growing list of former Packers in South Beach. Jon-Eric Sullivan, who spent nearly 20 years in the Packers’ front office, is in his first season as the Dolphins’ general manager. And new head coach Jeff Hafley is the Packers’ former defensive coordinator.
The Dolphins play the Packers in Week 15 of the 2026 season on Dec. 20.

The 25-year-old is a practice squad candidate if he clears waivers.
Perry had an interception in Denver during the Packers’ second preseason game and an impressive fourth-and-goal tackle to prevent a touchdown against Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth in the preseason opener.
Perry went undrafted in 2024 and has spent time with five other organizations.
He signed to the practice squad on Jan. 1 and then a reserve/future contract Jan. 12 after last season ended.
