If there’s nothing to hide, the request should be easily met.
Earlier on Tuesday, the NFL concluded that Jalen Hurts being cleared to play with a superficial blood clot was “handled appropriately.”
On Tuesday evening, the NFL Players Association pushed back on that assertion with an official statement:
The NFLPA is not aware of any NFL investigation into the medical care provided to Jalen Hurts. In fact, the league previously informed the union that it did not plan to review the care he received. Before conclusions are drawn about how this situation was handled, there must be a full investigation into what occurred. Determining the facts is essential to ensuring players receive the highest level of care and protection going forward.
The NFLPA isn’t necessarily casting doubt on the NFL’s stance. They’re calling for more transparency, which they’re well within their rights to do. It’s not their function to merely take the league at their word.
If everything was truly above board in how the Eagles handled Hurts’ medical situation, a “full investigation” into the matter should reveal as much. The team and the league should be fully cooperative with the NFLPA if they have nothing to hide.
It’ll be interesting to see what comes of this request.
