Conor McGregor received support from longtime teammate Dillon Danis after his disastrous UFC 329 comeback.
Former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor’s return to the Octagon after a five-year absence ended disastrously at UFC 329 last Saturday in Las Vegas.
McGregor, who appeared for the first time since a left leg injury suffered against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, lost to Max Holloway by TKO (injury stoppage) just seconds into their fight at UFC 329. After a failed spinning wheel kick to open the fight, McGregor suffered a right leg injury that brought his latest comeback bid to a screeching halt.
Despite his latest injury, McGregor recently announced his intention to return to the Octagon once he’s fully recovered. McGregor hasn’t won since finishing Donald Cerrone at UFC 246.
Many of McGregor’s critics and detractors are out in full force following the shocking end to his comeback fight. Some questioned if McGregor fought for a paycheck and suffered an injury weeks before the bout without notifying the UFC.
McGregor’s longtime ally, Dillon Danis, hit back at those sentiments.
Dillon Danis comes to Conor McGregor’s defense amidst UFC 329 backlash
In a recent tweet, Danis issued a lengthy message to McGregor’s detractors and haters after UFC 329.
“You’re all a bunch of f—— bums hating on my brother’s name, especially fighters. Without Conor McGregor, everyone in MMA would still be making 10K fighting on Spike TV. He changed the game forever. Watching him fight through things people don’t come back from inspires me to keep facing my own demons,” Danis said of McGregor.
He didn’t have to go for it, but he still did for the love of the game. That’s what separates him. A real motherf—— G. Nobody knows the real man. He taught me the game, taught me about life, and so much more than I could ever put into words. He taught me how to believe in myself, think bigger, trust my instincts, keep going when the whole world doubts you, and never settle.
“I’ll always be grateful for everything he’s taught me and everything he continues to teach me,” Danis continued on McGregor. “My brother for life. If you hate on that, you’ll never achieve greatness. Always up. The legend. The best ever to do it. McGregor forever.”
