UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev’s team scoffed at Ian Machado Garry comparing himself to Conor McGregor ahead of UFC 330

Islam Makhachev will face rising star Ian Machado Garry in the UFC 330 main event next month in Philadelphia. Makhachev will make his first UFC welterweight title defense against Garry after winning the belt last year at UFC 322.

Makhachev enters UFC 330 as the consensus pound-for-pound best fighter in the world, a title Garry will look to dethrone when they meet in the Octagon. Garry raised eyebrows recently ahead of UFC 330 when he compared Conor McGregor’s 13-second win over Jose Aldo to his upcoming fight with Makhachev.

While Garry arguably holds a distinct striking advantage over Makhachev, his comparisons to McGregor created a social media firestorm over the weekend. It didn’t take long for Makhachev’s team to respond to Garry’s controversial remarks.

Islam Makhachev’s manager warns Ian Machado Garry of ‘reality check’ ahead of UFC 330

In a recent tweet, Makhachev’s longtime manager, Ali Abdelaziz, reacted to Garry’s comments.

“I’ve been listening to Islam’s opponent talking,” Abdelaziz said of Garry’s comments about Makhachev.

“Here are the facts: He’s 2-1 in his last three fights. He was almost knocked out by [Carlos] Prates and got saved by the bell. He has 10 wins in the UFC, and 8 of them came by decision. Somebody needs to give this young man a reality check because he’s about to get smashed.”

Garry will look to hand Makhachev his first loss since a knockout defeat to Adriano Martins at UFC 192. He’s won 16 consecutive fights and is one of a handful of UFC greats to win titles in multiple divisions.

As of this writing, Garry hasn’t responded to Abdelaziz’s scathing tweet. He earned the title shot after recent wins over Belal Muhammad and Carlos Prates.
