Stefon Diggs led the New England Patriots in receptions and yards during the 2025 season, but in a surprising move, he was released in March. The Patriots decided to rebuild their wide receiver group, signing Romeo Doubs in free agency and trading for A.J. Brown.

Three months later, Diggs remains a free agent. But his unemployment might not last for long.

Stefon Diggs Mentioned as an Option for Two NFL Teams Before Training Camp

Despite returning from a serious injury at 31, Diggs had a solid season with the Patriots. He finished the year with 85 receptions, 1,013 yards, and four touchdowns. He also played in his first Super Bowl, with New England losing to the Seattle Seahawks in the Championship Game.

Diggs could be taking his time to sign with a new team, presumably a contender, but his name has been floated in many different directions. After the Patriots acquired Brown, his name returned to discussions, and former NFL receiver Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson listed two possible landing spots for the veteran.

“Diggs will be a Raven or Commander,” Johnson wrote on X.

Both teams have been teased as destinations. When new Ravens safety Jaylin Hawkins commented on a social media post telling Diggs to go to Baltimore, he responded with two eye emojis, prompting fans to believe he could become Lamar Jackson’s teammate in 2026.

The Commanders, on the other hand, have been labeled as a landing spot for both Stefon and his brother, cornerback Trevon Diggs, who’s also a free agent. In a video released on May 19, the brothers said they would “talk about it real soon” when asked if they’d play together in Washington.

The Patriots released Diggs because his cap hit was set to jump from $10.5 million in 2025 to $26.5 million in 2026. His contract was structured so that New England could easily move on from him after the first year if they chose to.

At the time of his signing, Diggs was returning from a torn ACL he suffered in 2024 when playing for the Houston Texans.

Adding Diggs to the roster could improve the Ravens’ roster even more. Apart from Zay Flowers, they don’t have a wide receiver they can fully trust on the roster. Despite a few good moments, Rashod Bateman’s inconsistency calls for upgrades as the No. 2 receiver.

The Commanders also need to improve their receiving corps, with little depth beyond Terry McLaurin. Diggs’ experience and production could help Jayden Daniels return to the level he reached in his rookie year, when he was named Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Diggs was ranked the No. 4 wide receiver in 2025 per our PFSN WR Impact Metric, netting an 87.0 impact score.
