With NBA free agency just about to begin, the Golden State Warriors are looking to make a huge splash.

For months, rumors of their pursuit of LeBron James have flooded social media. Now, there’s also buzz about potentially trading for Anthony Davis.

Nevertheless, ESPN insider Brian Windhorst doesn’t see that happening at the moment.

Talking on “Get Up,” Windhorst argued that, while the situation can change, the Warriors will rather keep Jimmy Butler than trade for Davis, though they will definitely try to sign LeBron.

The Warriors want to keep Jimmy Butler and add LeBron James

“I’m taking the Anthony Davis thing off the front burner. I do not have data that says that’s likely to happen,” Windhorst said. “The Warriors told Jimmy Butler they’re not trading him. I think the focus right now is, can they get LeBron James away from the Los Angeles Lakers? That’s something they’re going to try to get done today.”

The Warriors can’t afford to keep Butler and trade for Davis, so if the plan is to keep Butler a Davis trade appears to be off the table.

As for James, Windhorst reported that he’s looking for happiness over money at this point in his career, which is another reason to believe the Warriors may have a legitimate shot at him.

The Warriors can’t offer him as much money as the Los Angeles Lakers, though they can give him an opportunity to join his former nemesis, Stephen Curry, one of his closest friends, Draymond Green and to play for another championship.

Butler is optimistic about an early-season return from his ACL injury, and while this roster isn’t necessarily the youngest, LeBron’s addition would certainly elevate its title odds.
