UFC analyst Dustin Poirier has given his thoughts on the UFC 330 main event between Islam Makhachev and Ian Machado Garry.
On Saturday night, Islam Makhachev will attempt to set the record for the most consecutive UFC wins when he defends his welterweight championship against Ian Machado Garry. While many see Islam as the favorite, there’s no denying that the Irishman has the potential to cause him some real problems in this contest.

In equal measure, Makhachev is close to making history, which could vault him into the greatest of all time conversation. He has already faced and beaten some legends of the game in his time, and one example of that is none other than Dustin Poirier.
In a recent preview, Poirier gave his thoughts on the upcoming collision between Makhachev and Machado Garry.

“Anderson, his record was crazy, but what makes it more impressive is he’s clearing out weight classes,” Poirier said of Makhachev on Deep Waters. “He’s beaten the best ’45’er, cleaned out 155, went up, took the belt from the 170. That’s what pound-for-pound really is.”
Dustin went on to break down how Machado Garry could find success against Islam.
“If he can keep Islam at the end of his punches and use good footwork, keep the fight in the middle of the octagon, stay off the fence, that’s where he’s going to have success, I think,” Poirier said. “But, the first takedown, it’s going to happen. He’s not going to defend everything. His ability to get back up is going to tell the tale of the fight, I think.”
