Conor McGregor has questioned Canelo Alvarez’s drawing power following the Mexican’s return to boxing, claiming that his own fights continue to generate significantly greater commercial interest.
Alvarez returned to action this past weekend after more than a year away from the ring, defeating Christian Mbilli in Saudi Arabia to claim the WBC super middleweight title. McGregor, meanwhile, is recovering from the ACL injury he suffered during his 69-second defeat to Max Holloway at UFC 329 in July.
“How many views did the Canelo fight get? How many in attendance? Gate?” McGregor wrote on X on Sunday, before insisting that his own drawing power remains unmatched.
“Man, I outdo ALL of these people in sales. Majorly. EVERY SINGLE ONE. With ease. Maybe even combined.
“I don’t even be trying. I was on the same time as the World Cup semi-final and still did all those numbers in that last bulls*** that I’ve to sit with for another few months before I return. “I’m going to actually try to sell the fight for my next one. My final fight. See what numbers I can generate. Keep outdoing my own records.”
McGregor’s defeat to Holloway generated a reported $25 million live gate, the highest in UFC history. The former two-division champion also holds several of the promotion’s pay-per-view records, including his 2018 bout with Khabib Nurmagomedov, which reportedly attracted more than 2.4 million purchases.
The 38-year-old is targeting a return during International Fight Week in July 2027, potentially in a third meeting with Holloway. The bout would fulfil the final fight on his current UFC contract, although it remains unclear whether McGregor intends to continue competing beyond that date.
