Coleman ‘figures to have a growing role’ with DEN

Coleman’s 39 rushing yards led the team, while his 10 carries tied for the team high with J.K. Dobbins, who exited with a hamstring injury. With RJ Harvey (hamstring) also sidelined in this game, Coleman out-snapped veteran Tyler Badie 25 to 19, while also running six routes out of the backfield. Coleman found the end zone on a three-yard run in the fourth quarter to put the Broncos up 20-13. We’ll have to see how Dobbins and Harvey progress through their injuries throughout the week, but if both players are sidelined in Week 3 against the Rams, Coleman will have some FLEX appeal.

Badie saw significant action in this one after JK Dobbins exited the contest with a hamstring injury. RJ Harvey was inactive with his own hamstring issue, leaving Badie in the Harvey role and rookie RB Jonah Coleman as the primary early-down option for OC Davis Webb. If Dobbins and Harvey are sidelined next week against the Rams, Badie would have some usefulness in deeper PPR formats.

The injury-married Dobbins was in and out of the Denver lineup with various injuries and finally left the contest with what was called a hamstring issue. With RJ Harvey (hamstring) inactive, Jonah Coleman took over as the Broncos’ primary back while Tyler Badie functioned as the pass catcher out of the backfield. Coleman could be a candidate for upwards of 20 touches per week if Dobbins and Harvey are sidelined next week. Coleman’s lack of pass-catching involvement will limit his upside, however.

Harvey will miss Week 2 with a hamstring injury, leaving JK Dobbins as the team’s lead back and Jonah Coleman as the likely RB2 option. Dobbins should get a boost — perhaps in the pass catching game — with Harvey sidelined, while Coleman probably won’t see more than a handful of touches.

Harvey was listed as limited on Wednesday, though the team didn’t actually hold a practice. They were back on the field for the next two days and listed him as limited. The fact that he practiced in any capacity should mean this isn’t a long-term issue, but the Broncos are playing it safe this week. J.K. Dobbins will see the bulk of the carries and rookie Jonah Coleman could be in line for some of Harvey’s designed touches. Dobbins is locked in as an RB3 for Week 2, while Coleman is more of a deep-cut FLEX play.

Even if Harvey is active, he makes for a dicey FLEX start. The second-year running back totaled seven touches in last week’s loss and he logged only two limited practices this week. The Broncos can divvy up the backfield work between RB J.K. Dobbins, Harvey and rookie RB Jonah Coleman if need be.

Harvey joined his teammates on the field for a limited session after sitting out on Wednesday. He has a chance to play. If active, it is unclear how effective he can be, and the Broncos do have a capable backup, rookie RB Jonah Coleman, who should be stashed where available. Hopefully, Harvey practices fully tomorrow. Coming off Monday Night Football, the Broncos did not hold an official practice today, so their injury report is only an estimate. Still, an estimated DNP for Harvey is a major concern. Rookie Jonah Coleman will take on some of Harvey’s role if he isn’t available for Week 2. J.K. Dobbins would also pick up a few extra carries. Denver’s injury report will be one of the biggest fantasy stories of the week.

Badie’s inclusion on the Week 1 inactives list means rookie Jonah Coleman gets the nod as the RB3 behind J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey. It remains unlikely Coleman contributes meaningful counting stats in his first professional appearance, but the fact he is now confirmed to be ahead of Badie is meaningful to his longterm upside in what should be one of the top rushing attacks in the league.

Dobbins will once again start the season as Denver’s presumed lead back, though he’s unlikely to see much pass-game involvement. That should belong (for now) to RJ Harvey, who’s listed as the team’s RB2. Harvey last year was targeted on a strong 27 percent of his pass routes and ended the season with 47 receptions for 365 yards and six receiving scores. Rookie RB Jonah Coleman will start the year as the Broncos’ RB3. He profiles as a sneaky stash option in 12 and 14-team formats.

FOX Sports’ Ralph Vacchiano believes the Giants’ “best bet is to commit all their first-team reps” to backup QB Jameis Winston rather than trading for a potential fill-in starter.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said to “expect” Brock Bowers (knee) to play in Week 3 against the Saints.
