The NFL has seen plenty of change in recent years. But a team capable of fielding a strong, physically dominant offense will always benefit, no matter the era. The Pittsburgh Steelers have certainly tried to inject physicality into their offense this offseason. Former NFL receiver Isaiah Stanback recently recognized their efforts.

“I have to ask the question. Is this going to be the most physical offense in the AFC? I ask the question because, do you guys see the size of these receivers?” Stanback asked Monday on Good Morning Football. “Listen, these guys are going to be physical in the run game and in the passing game. So you have to wonder, are these guys going to get back to the old school, Steeler way of playing bully ball?”

The Steelers’ efforts to increase their offense’s physicality date back to Tomlin’s coaching staff, which sacrificed a second-round pick for DK Metcalf last offseason. But their newest receiving additions are also physical. Michael Pittman Jr. and Germie Bernard are very capable blockers. Being able to put three receivers on the field who can block well will majorly benefit the offense. Of course, Darnell Washington is capable of bullying defenders as one of the most unique players in the league.

The offensive line has continued to see its own influx of depth. And if you’re looking for a mauler, you don’t need to look any further than third-round selection Gennings Dunker. He’s moving to guard and may not see much playing time at the beginning of the season. But his brutal physicality is one of his strongest traits. Pittsburgh’s newest right tackle, Max Iheanachor, has plenty of size and strength as well.

Of course, physical running backs are necessary for any offense that wants to be the toughest in its conference. Rico Dowdle has proved his worth as a workhorse, running 235 times for 1,079 yards under Mike McCarthy in 2024. Warren also proved durable in 2025, getting more than 200 carries for the first time in his career and nearly turning it into 1,000 yards.

If Mike McCarthy can give the Steelers the AFC’s most physical offense, that’s quite an accomplishment. It’s certainly a hard goal, but Pittsburgh’s offense has plenty of physicality. Stanback doesn’t think an achievement like that is impossible.
