Alexander Volkanovski thinks he can score his first finish since 2023 when he meets Movsar Evloev.
Volkanovski is set to put his UFC Featherweight Championship at stake against Evloev on Oct. 24. The title fight is set to headline UFC 333 in Abu Dhabi, and the oddsmakers have this one as a pick’em. It’ll be the first UFC championship opportunity for Evloev, who earned his shot with wins over the likes of Aljamain Sterling and Lerone Murphy.
As Volkanovski hopes to extend his second reign as the 145-pound king, he spoke to MMAJunkie.com during an Engage fan event. “The Great” said that while Evloev is focused on going the distance, he thinks a finish is more than doable on fight night.
“I’m very confident in my skills and the fighter I still am,” Volkanovski said. “I think I get my hand raised, and I think I can do it in pretty wild fashion. I believe I can get a finish. I think I can do it inside the five. He’s saying maybe he wants to win the decision. I’m saying I’ll finish him inside the five rounds for sure. Great opponent. Great skill. I just really think I’m going to perform, and it’s going to be one of my best performances. A lot of people are going to go say after this fight, ‘Is that the best Volk we’ve ever seen?’ I truly do believe that, I think just purely for the performance I’m going to bring.”
Volkanovski has two straight wins over Diego Lopes, so Evloev will be the first fresh face for “The Great” in a while. Whether or not that will impact the champion at UFC 333 will be a story to watch going into fight week.
Do you think Alexander Volkanovski vs. Movsar Evloev ends in a finish, or is a decision more likely for the UFC 333 headliner? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
