Ailín Pérez and Norma Dumont are ranked at number two and three, respectively, following their clash with a fellow ranked bantamweight scoping either combatant for her next fight. That mixed martial artist in question is Melissa Croden who takes on Chelsea Chandler at UFC Edmonton on October 17th. Chandler enters the cage as the number fifteen ranked 135 pound fighter in the company while Croden currently sits at number nine within the divisional hierarchy.
In discussing the recent Pérez vs. Dumont fight, relative to the fact that it is a relevant fight within the division the Alberta-based competitor is also surging in, Croden said [via MMA Canada],
“I watched a few bits of it. It sounded like it was pretty inactive. Depending on how this next fight goes, I’m assuming I’ll be fighting one of them or getting close to fighting one of them soon. So yeah, I think the bantamweight division right now is quite shallow. So that’s why I’ve probably climbed the rankings faster than I thought I was going to because I’ve been active.”
“I have a few wins and the division is shallow. So, yeah, I think that everyone that is in the top 10 are pretty close in skill. So I think any match that I might get within the top 10 will be a good challenge, but also they are beatable. I think everybody’s beatable, including myself. So yeah, it’s just a matter of preparation and how you show up on the night, honestly.”

Ailín Pérez and Norma Dumont have no love lost between them even after throwing down, with the former revealing a threatening DM recently sent to her by the latter. Pérez edged out Dumont by way of a split decision, which some seemed to call into question as the dust settled on a fight that had a lot of trash talk leading in but was described as fairly inactive and tepid once the cage door was locked.
During a recent interview on The Ariel Helwani Show, where the Argentinian fighter touched on what the direct message from her Brazilian adversary conveyed, Pérez stated [via MMA Sucka],
“Funny enough, after the fight, she actually wrote to me personally in my Instagram. And she actually told me that after the fight, she’s going to find me and beat the sh*t out of me.”
The reported Dumont message, translated from Portuguese to English, reads as follows,
“I already hit you once, and I’m going to hit you again when I see you. You already know that you didn’t win.”
