The job’s not finished? After the Cowboys traded for Joey Porter Jr. the Cowboys may not be done adding more external pieces.
Defense has been an issue for the Cowboys for multiple seasons, and there are no immediate signs of the problem being solved. Through five games, the Cowboys rank 31st in the NFL in total defense and 26th in scoring defense, allowing 27.2 points per game. That is undoubtedly a big reason why owner and general manager Jerry Jones got aggressive and acquired Porter from the Pittsburgh Steelers last week in exchange for a 2028 second-round draft pick and 2027 sixth-round pick.
Five games into the Christian Parker era and the first-time defensive coordinator is falling well short of expectations.
If you remember, Parker said stopping the run and affecting the quarterback were his two biggest priorities. He also emphasized fundamentals and situational awareness as qualities a successful defense needed.Well here we are, five games into the season and Dallas has given up 842 rushing yards on 165 carries, averaging 5.1 yards per carry. While the opposing quarterbacks have completed 101 of 140 passes for a 72.1% completion rate, without throwing an interception

The Cowboys are experiencing extreme buyer’s remorse.
Does that outweigh being a liability in the run game? Ferguson can’t block. He’s extremely inconsistent, lacks the physicality to take on edge rushers and linebackers, and lacks the power to generate movement. The most we’ve seen from him is getting in the way just enough for a running back to cruise into the end zone or past the first down marker. Against the Texans, I don’t think he could have been any worse as a run blocker.
How to hate like a fan properly this weekend.
With the Cowboys now 2-3, we’re getting perilously close to the point where we’ll need other games to go our way to make the playoffs. Maybe Dallas gets healthy and rested and goes on a run, but that’s hard to wrap your head around after they messed the bed against the winless Bucs. Controlling our own destiny is little more than a pipe dream at this point, so let’s start digging into the Sunday slate for Week 5 and what’s best for the Cowboys.
