ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Raiders RB Ashton Jeanty is believed to have sprained his ankle and it is not considered a long-term injury.

The Raiders are still unsure how long Jeanty will be sidelined, but both Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport say the team is “breathing a sigh of relief.” Without knowing Jeanty’s return timeline, and the injury’s specifics, it is difficult to assess whether Jeanty is worthy of a top-15 fantasy draft pick. We expect to learn more in the coming days. For now, it might be worthwhile to pass on Jeanty in favor of healthy players late in Round 1 and early in Round 2. Should his ADP begin to tumble a few rounds, buying the dip could be worth it.

According to the California Post’s Vincent Bonsignore, the Raiders “gathered as a team to acknowledge the injury” after Jeanty was helped off the field. ESPN’s Ryan McFadden believes it is a right knee injury. This sounds bad. We will provide an update as soon as possible. Raiders rookie RB Mike Washington is his direct backup and would likely operate as the team’s starter if Jeanty misses time.

  • It makes some sense given how the offseason played out, as the Raiders never really settled on a potential third-down back until they signed Dare Ogunbowale once training camp started. Jeanty playing all three downs would be a major feather in his cap from a fantasy perspective should it come to pass. Jeanty caught 55 passes for 346 yards and five scores in 2026, but given the quality of receiver talent on this roster, he could do better in his second season.

  • Per Breer, Jeanty “is showing explosion and violence running without pads on.” Assuming those traits carry over to padded practices and the regular season, coach Klint Kubiak “will have a pretty valuable centerpiece for the run game that serves as the foundation for his scheme.” It’s been months since we heard talk of a split backfield. The idea is seemingly a thing of the past after May and June reports indicated Jeanty could serve as a featured three-down player. Treat him as a locked-in RB1 with upside.

This is the second report in as many weeks, published on the team website, where Jeanty says he does not want to come off the field in 2026 and a Raiders coach backs him up. Per Young, Jeanty is currently refining his pass protection, receiving skills and ability “to make the simple plays in the run game.” It remains to be seen whether Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak will move on from the two-player backfield rotation that has served him well in the past. Thus far, though, Jeanty’s odds of securing a true bellcow role seem to be ever so slightly ticking upward.

  • Nothing is set in stone, but this quote is worth paying close attention to. Kubiak employed a steady two-running back rotation in the Seahawks’ Super Bowl run last year. Is it possible he would adjust his philosophy if the backfield’s talent requires him to do so? With a “slight” smile, Kubiak said that the team wants “to put a lot of pressure” on RB1 Ashton Jeanty, before noting that 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey’s “play-snap percentage is high. So, those great backs, they don’t want to come off the field.” Jeanty echoed the sentiment, saying, “if I don’t have to, I don’t want to come off the field.” Now, if rookie RB Mike Washington Jr. takes spring and summer practices by storm, Kubiak will probably rotate him in regularly. However, it seems as though Kubiak is at least open to the idea of featuring Jeanty as a full-time player.

  • It’s a record-breaking contract that makes Linderbaum the highest-paid interior offensive lineman in NFL history. The $27 million average per year beat Creed Humphrey’s record for centers by $8 million a season. The Raiders desperately needed this kind of talent infusion on their interior line, and with Fernando Mendoza (almost certainly) about to arrive soon, Linderbaum will help him set protections and get him adjusted to the NFL game. The rumors that Linderbaum was about to get a blank check in free agency proved more than true. This is also a big boost to Ashton Jeanty’s fantasy stock.

It’s not the news dynasty managers who spent valuable draft capital last season want to hear, but it isn’t all that surprising to hear from Kubiak, who deployed both Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet at high rates last season. Jeanty will almost certainly operate as the lead back, but it is a bit alarming when you consider how Walker and Charbonnet were utilized last season, and the fact that both running backs finished as the RB28 in PPR points per game (11.3). It’s far too early to panic, but fantasy managers already participating in early best ball drafts may want to consider this latest piece of news before selecting Jeanty in the last first/early second round of drafts.

  • Mendoza is all but certain to land with the Raiders, who have the first overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. After displaying “elite accuracy and overall arm talent to throw to all levels of the field” during his final season at Indiana — leading the Hoosiers to the team’s first national title — Mendoza should be a good fir for Kubiak, fresh off turning Sam Darnold into a Super Bowl winning quarterback. “Mendoza brings a strong frame and in-pocket mobility with enough creativity to handle duress out of structure,” Yates said. “And his quick-processing skills point to a successful starting NFL QB.” Even if Mendoza struggles as a rookie, he will be a major upgrade for Brock Bowers and the rest of the Vegas pass catchers.

  • Jeanty ends an uneven rookie campaign with a monster workload in a run-heavy scheme designed to get the season over with as soon as humanly possible. Jeanty will finish with the seventh most rushing attempts in the NFL this season and the 16th most yards. He finished 30th in rush yards after contact per rushing attempt, operating behind one of the league’s worst offensive lines. He had as many runs of over ten yards (24) as Breece Hall. The Raiders tried to utilize Jeanty with heavy workloads, but with no room to run, Jeanty eclipsed 100 rushing yards just twice in 2025. Jeanty’s pass game usage increased as the season wore on; he finished with 55 grabs on 69 targets. A new coaching staff willing to use Jeanty in more creative ways should improve his 2026 fantasy prospects.

Jeanty simply had nowhere to run behind the Raiders’ offensive line. He regularly got hit near the line of scrimmage and was unable to will his way past the Giants’ swarming defenders. Defenses already have little reason to respect the Raiders’ passing offense, and things could be even more difficult against the Chiefs next week, with QB Geno Smith (ankle) potentially sidelined. Jeanty remains just a volume-based RB2.

    Bengals released OT Cody Ford.

Ford has played in 50 of a possible 51 regular-season games for the Bengals since first joining the team in 2023, while making 10 starts over that span. The veteran lineman has started just 42 games in his career since being drafted in the second round by the Bills in 2019 and is unlikely to be viewed as anything more than a depth piece at this point in his career. Ford has started nine or fewer games in every year outside of his rookie campaign and has versatility to play as a tackle or along the interior.

TreVeyon Henderson left Monday’s practice early.

According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, Henderson slipped on the field while making a cut and left the field. The second-year back was reportedly getting his right foot/ankle/leg checked out by trainers, but we are still waiting for more information on his status. Henderson is expected to again find himself in a 50-50 backfield split with Rhamondre Stevenson this season, but any absence would immediately raise the weekly expectations for Stevenson for as long as Henderson is out. Hopefully this isn’t anything too serious, we will be sure to provide an update when we receive one.

Panthers HC Dave Canales said the team will use a running back by committee approach if Chuba Hubbard (hamstring) and Jonathon Brooks are both available.

Hubbard is still working his way back from a hamstring injury that has sidelined him since mid-August, but if the 27-year-old back is good to go, he is expected to see work alongside Jonathon Brooks, who seems to finally be healthy after an injury-plagued start to his first three years in the league. An RBBC situation would be a pain for fantasy managers to navigate during the early part of the season, but if it comes down to it, hopefully we will get an early sense of how Canales plans to deploy both backs so we can better understand their viability for fantasy purposes.

Steelers HC Mike McCarthy said the Steelers are at an “impasse” with CB Joey Porter Jr. on contract extension talks.

In an article published by ESPN’s Brooke Pryor, Pryor writes that a source familiar with the situation shared there “hasn’t been meaningful progress on extension talks.” The 26-year-old corner has spent all of training camp on the active/PUP list with a back injury, but we haven’t heard much about him since. Despite the current situation between Porter and the Steelers, the team said it has neither received nor made any trade calls regarding the star corner. Porter still needs to be activated off the PUP list in order to be ready for the start of the season.

  • 49ers owner Jed York was arrested on misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possession criminal tools on Sunday.

According to an NBC4 article, York was arrested in East Palestine, Ohio, and found guilty of both charges after pleading no contest. NBC’s Matt Maiocco later reported that Ohio court records say York was charged with engaging in prostitution under statute 2907.231. York was ordered to spend two days in jail and pay $1,150 in fines. This is still a developing story, and York’s attorney and the Niners have not yet commented on the situation.

Shedeur Sanders will start the season as the QB2 for the Browns.

Multiple outlets reported on Monday that Deshaun Watson would be the starter for Week 1 against the Jaguars, with Sanders as the backup. Sanders was solid in his second preseason game, completing 9-of-11 passes for 74 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in one half of play, but this camp battle was always expected to work in Watson’s favor, barring an obvious breakout by Sanders in camp. While it’s not the result Sanders and his fantasy managers hoped for, Watson’s job is anything but secure. He’ll start in Week 1, but the veteran QB will likely be evaluated on a week-to-week basis, meaning head coach Todd Monken could turn the job over to Sanders at any point in time.

Dolphins WR Chris Bell was seen without a non-contact jersey at Monday’s practice.

It’s yet another encouraging sign for Bell, who was activated off the PUP list last Monday after recovering from a torn ACL he suffered during his 2025 season at Louisville. The rookie third-rounder has been getting up to speed since making his return and could have a chance to contribute to the Dolphins’ offense later this season.

Steelers activated CB Jalen Ramsey from the active/PUP list.

Ramsey was placed on the PUP list due to a knee injury he suffered in minicamp, but it never sounded like this would be something that could keep him out for an extended period of time. The 31-year-old corner will presumably resume practicing with the team this week and should be in good shape for Week 1’s game against the Falcons barring any setback.

Saints signed K Daniel Carlson, formerly of the Raiders.

It would appear that the winner of the kicking competition that took place in training camp between Tanner Brown and Charlie Smyth is the man who wasn’t there. Carlson, who has remained unsigned since his contract with the Raiders expired at the end of last season, is now expected to take over as the Saints’ starting kicker for the season. Currently the 10th-most accurate kicker in NFL history, Carlson converted 22-of-27 field goal attempts last season, with three of his misses coming from 50-plus yards. Carlson still possesses one of the biggest legs in the league and should benefit from kicking in the friendly confines of the Superdome this season.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reports the Browns plan to name Deshaun Watson as their starter for Week 1 against the Jaguars.

This is coming from multiple reports, per Schultz. We’ll eventually get word from head coach Todd Monken on the decision, but it sounds like Watson, who was the favorite to win the battle entering training camp, will get the first crack at the starting job. Watson completed 16-of-27 passes for no touchdowns and one interception in his two preseason appearances, and struggled in last week’s outing against the Bills while playing with backups. Despite being booed off the field after a disappointing performance in front of a home crowd, the 30-year-old vet, who is in the final year of a five-year, $230 million fully guaranteed contract, will get the chance to show he can lead the Browns in 2026. Watson shouldn’t be viewed as anything more than a low-end QB2 for fantasy purposes, but he has some exciting offensive weapons to throw to in Denzel Boston, KC Concepcion, and Harold Fannin.
