Shane van Gisbergen joins Spire for Charlotte NASCAR Truck race

Spire Motorsports has announced Shane van Gisbergen as the driver of its No. 71 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado next week at Charlotte Motor Speedway. NationsGuard will sponsor the effort.

This will be SVG’s third career start in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, and his second on an oval. The three-time Supercars champion ran at IRP in 2023 with Niece Motorsports, finishing 19th. He drove for the time last weekend at Watkins Glen as well, placing third. Two days later in the Cup race, he earned his first win of the year, beating Spire’s own Michael McDowell.

Van Gisbergen will be the second Trackhouse driver to pilot a Spire truck this year, as teammate Connor Zilisch drove the same truck to a runner-up finish at The Glen.

For the Charlotte Truck, SVG will be teammates with fellow Cup drivers Kyle Busch and Carson Hocevar. While all Chevrolet drivers, they each drive for different teams at the Cup level, with only Hocevar also driving for Spire in the top division.

Next weekend, Charlotte will become the first oval SVG has driven at all three national levels of NASCAR. He finished a respectable 14th in last year’s Coca-Cola 600, and 15th in the 2024 O’Reilly race at the track.

Spire has eleven wins in the Truck Series and two this year — Busch at Atlanta and Hocevar at Texas. Both victories were also 1-2 finishes for the organization.
