2026 Fourth Of July Weekend: Steelers Friday Night Five Questions

Happy Friday, and I hope yinz are doing well.

We are one week closer to training camp. The Steelers will report to Latrobe in the late July. Predictably, there’s not been much news this week as the NFL world takes its final rest before a long season begins. At Steelers Depot, some of our offseason series are wrapping up, with our championship round of Steelers Depot Jeopardy coming out earlier this week.

For now, most of the anticipation surrounds the battles that lie ahead in training camp. Four quarterbacks are fighting for what may only be three spots, and various rookies are fighting to fill out the 53-man roster. Those will remain the biggest storylines until the Steelers report to camp on July 28, and we finally get to see how it all plays out.

As always, we’re here with you throughout the weekend for whatever news comes our way.

Have a safe and happy weekend.

Recap: One Month Until 2026 Training Camp: Steelers Friday Night Five Questions

One week closer to camp!

Q1: Do you agree with the NFL not allowing Brendan Sorsby into the supplemental draft?

Overall, Steelers Depot respondents agree with the NFL’s decision not to hold a supplemental draft for QB Brendan Sorsby. The Canadian Football League also announced that it is not an alternative. John Stewart sees both sides: “Yes & No. The NFL is in deep with gambling. They cannot take ‘the high road’ here w/out hypocrisy. If this is about integrity, specify what Sorsby needs to do to be reinstated. Demonstrate concern for his rehab in order to reflect concern for the game. Be transparent & responsible.”

Q2: Which Steelers position group most needs additional talent?

Steelers Depot readers identified inside linebacker as the position group most in need of additional talent. Stewart continues with ILB, “because I think this may be a weak spot. (Would have traded Queen & signed Chenal.) Safety, because I don’t understand the plan for deployment.”

Q3: Who is the biggest X factor for the Steelers offense in 2026?

Germie Bernard and Michael Pittman Jr. are the biggest X factors for the Steelers offense in 2026. Warrior1000 believes that “Michael Pittman could have a monster season.” Yours truly says, “Germie Bernard – if he is an elusive receiver, things will open up for Metcalf and Pittman.”

Q4: Who is the biggest X factor on the Steelers defense in 2026?

T.J. Watt needs to return to his dominant play. That is the X factor for the Steelers defense in 2026. NewGuy68’s comment captures it: “A return to form from T.J. Watt.” But Chris92021 identifies a non-player as the X factor on defense: “Patrick Graham. We have the most expensive defense in the league. On paper, it should be top 5. No more excuses regarding Teryl Austin and Mike Tomlin.”

Q5: Are you watching the World Cup? If you’re not rooting for the USA, what country are you pulling for?

We might not be watching every game. But almost everyone said they have been watching at least a little World Cup coverage. The teams that readers are pulling for varies. Scotland failed to make the knockout stage. Japan and the Netherlands lost in the first round. Mexico, Norway, and Belgium advanced to Round 2. Steven Small noted, “No Scotland, no party. We were hopeless as usual! At least the Steelers make the knockout rounds! Apologies to any English Steelers fans, but I’ll go back to supporting whoever they play next.” Of course, one reader’s favorite team has never qualified for the World Cup – Estonia. But maybe next time!
