LAS VEGAS – Sean Strickland beat Jack Marshman with a unanimous decision Saturday on the preliminary card at UFC on ESPN+ 39 in Las Vegas.
Take a look inside the fight with Strickland, who returned after a two-year layoff with a shutout win.
“Jack’s a tough guy who likes to box. We got to a point where it was like, ‘Let’s just take the center and see who wins.’ I knew I was probably winning and in the last 30 seconds, I was like, ‘Jack, I’m going to give you a chance to win. Let’s stay in the middle and throw some haymakers.’ In the back of my head, I’m thinking, ‘If he knocks you out, you’re never going to hear the end of it.’ I said, ‘Screw it. Let’s see. Maybe one of us will get a knockout and a bonus.’ Of course, it didn’t happen. Of course I didn’t knock him out. He’s made of stone.”
“I think I’m the best in the world. If you talk to any world champion who’s trained with me, they’ll tell you I’m the best in the gym. It’s taking what I do in the gym and doing it in the octagon. If I can do that, you’re going to say, ‘Oh man, this guy is a top 10, top five contender.’ … I love middleweight. It makes me enjoy fighting now. I can go train a hard camp and then eat. Middleweight’s where it is at. Jack is the man. He welcomed me to middleweight and was a tough guy. I appreciate the opportunity to fight him.”
“I want to recalibrate and get back in the gym. I want to let my body heal up a little bit and then get back in there. I’ve told the UFC I’ll fight anybody.”
