PFL co-founder Donn Davis continues to put down the gauntlet to Dana White and the UFC.
Davis spoke to the media forward of Saturday’s PFL: Battle of the Giants pay-per-view in Saudi Arabia, headlined by Francis Ngannou vs. Renan Ferreira. The outspoken Davis went on to clarify why White is afraid of reserving a PFL vs. UFC cross-promotional occasion.
“Sure, the UFC’s model identify is greater, we acknowledge that, we’re the brand new man,” Davis stated. “We now have to work more durable. We’re in 12 months 5, they’re in 12 months 30. But when push got here to shove, and it was 5 fights — we choose 5, they choose 5 — let me let you know, they wouldn’t do this. As a result of we’d win half, they usually’d win half. … That’s why Dana, hashtag Dana scared, would by no means do this. He is aware of that and we all know that.
“However be followers of all of us. We love all combating, we root for all fighters. Watch them each.”
Davis has not been afraid to talk his thoughts in terms of White, the UFC, and the power of the PFL roster. In reality, Davis believes that the winner of Ngannou’s return to the MMA cage for the primary time since making the selection to vacate the UFC heavyweight title and signal with PFL — irrespective of who wins — is the perfect on the planet on the weight class.
One other gauntlet was laid down by Davis for present UFC heavyweight champ Jon Jones to face Ngannou, or the winner of this struggle.
“That is the struggle everybody desires to see,” Davis defined. “Whoever comes out of this struggle is the No. 1 [heavyweight] on the planet. So whoever desires to say the No. 1 spot goes by the winner of this struggle — not by the UFC, this struggle. So whoever desires to say that place higher be calling us after Saturday, not calling them.
“We’ve stated at PFL, we need to give followers what they need. … Francis Ngannou has stated he’ll tackle all comers. I believe Jon Jones desires to cement his legacy. There’s just one impediment to that struggle, and we all know who that’s.”
