JUPITER, Fla. (AP) — Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara acquired his NL Cy Younger Award trophy on Sunday for the second time — and this time he has no motive to offer it again.
“I wish to maintain it for the remainder of my life,” Alcantara stated. “I believe that’s for my mother.”
When the Baseball Writers’ Affiliation of America initially offered Alcantara with the trophy at its January awards dinner, the plaque dubbed each Alcantara and AL winner Justin Verlander the “most valuble” pitchers of their leagues, leaving out the second “a” in “helpful.”
