Earvin Johnson Sr., the daddy of Basketball Corridor of Famer Magic Johnson, died Wednesday night time.

He was 88.

Magic launched a tribute to his father through a press release on social media.

Earvin Johnson Sr. celebrated his 88th birthday in June.

“Individuals at all times ask me who I idolized rising up and I at all times say it began at residence,” Magic Johnson wrote on the time. “My father was my first hero and I thank him for giving me my work ethic each on and off the courtroom, and for at all times encouraging me to suppose outdoors the field and dream massive.”

Earvin Johnson Sr. is survived by his spouse, Christine, to whom he was married for greater than 60 years.
