Kit Harington May Return as Jon Snow in a Game of Thrones Sequel Series

Jon Snow—that is, Kit Harington—may be returning to TV in his own spinoff series. That’s according to a new story in The Hollywood Reporter, which claims that HBO is developing a Snow-centered sequel series to Game of Thrones. Harington is reportedly attached to reprise his role as King in the North, should the show happen.

Harington’s character is one of the few GoT favorites who survived to see the end of the series. In the show’s divisive series finale, Snow learns that his true identity is Aegon Targaryen, an heir to the Iron Throne, after killing Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys. He’s then exiled from Westeros, sent off North of the Wall with the Wildlings to start a new chapter.

Kit Harington, who was twice nominated for best supporting actor Emmys as Jon Snow, hasn’t publicly commented on a sequel series—but the project invites the possibility that other characters will return as well. Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie), or even Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), who also managed to survive the show’s persistent bloodshed, could all make appearances as well.

If the report is accurate, this would be the seventh Thrones spinoff series to hit the development stage at HBO. Other titles floating in the ether include 10,000 Ships, which follows warrior queen Princess Nymeria, and 9 Voyages, which focuses on Lord Corlys Velaryon. And never forget the planned GoT prequel starring Naomi Watts, which was scrapped back in 2019. So far, the only offshoot with an official release date is House of the Dragon, which follows a civil war within House Targaryen roughly 200 years before the events of Thrones. That show will bow on HBO on August 21.
