NEW YORK (AP) — Gerry Philbin, a defensive finish who helped the New York Jets shock the Baltimore Colts within the Tremendous Bowl after the 1968 season, has died, the team announced Friday. He was 83.
The reason for dying was dementia, Philbin’s household informed ESPN.

Philbin spent 9 seasons with the Jets and was a two-time All-AFL choice.
Within the third Tremendous Bowl on Jan. 12, 1969, the Jets and quarterback Joe Namath introduced legitimacy to the AFL and turned the sport right into a must-watch occasion after they beat the NFL champion Baltimore Colts 16-7.
