Ilia Topuria triggered many reactions along with his feedback on wanting to leave the UFC featherweight division behind for a transfer as much as light-weight.
UFC contender Diego Lopes was one of many many who had been caught off guard by the 145-pound champion’s daring remarks. Lopes, who’s knocking on the door of a title shot at featherweight, doesn’t care if Topuria stays or leaves the division. Nonetheless, he does discover Topuria’s potential transfer untimely.
“From my perspective, I feel he has work to do within the division,” Lopes told MMA Junkie in Spanish. “We’ve a number of contenders which have their sight on him, and I’m a type of. I would really like a struggle towards him, and if he stays within the division, that’s a struggle that I’ll search for. But when he’s actually leaving, he must make that call, and let’s see what occurs with the division.”
Given Topuria’s success in profitable and defending the UFC featherweight title, plus the variety of rising contenders within the weight class, Lopes admits he was shocked by Topuria’s current feedback. Nonetheless, Lopes remains to be not offered that the transfer is 100% taking place subsequent. But when it does come to fruition, he’d like for the UFC to match him uop towards former champion Alexander Volkanovski.
“I feel these feedback caught everybody unexpectedly since he had mentioned he was going to defend his title towards Volkanovski for his subsequent struggle,” Lopes defined.” However who is aware of, we don’t know what’s going to occur with the division, and we’re even asking the UFC what’s going to occur, and we haven’t gotten a solution, so perhaps he’s dropping his persistence and that’s why he made that feedback about wanting to maneuver to 155 to see if one thing occurs or UFC provides him a solution.
“If he really goes to maneuver as much as 155, I’d prefer to struggle towards Volkanovski – whether or not it’s a title struggle or not or an interim title. I’d wish to struggle him. If he’s going to be left and not using a struggle, I’m right here.”
