UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski expects big things from Movsar Evloev following his stunning knockout loss at UFC 333.
Alexander Volkanovski handed Movsar Evloev the first loss of his career last Saturday at UFC 333. The featherweight titleholder Volkanovski finished Evloev in Round 2 with brutal ground-and-pound in a legacy-defining victory.
It was a stunning defeat for Evloev, who appeared on the cusp of taking the UFC featherweight throne during his quick ascent up the rankings. Now, Evloev will look to go back to the drawing board and learn from the first setback of his career.
Volkanovski expects Evloev to be a matchup nightmare for the rest of the division going forward, and work his way back to a title shot quickly.
Alexander Volkanovski: Movsar Evloev ‘walks through’ rest of the featherweights after UFC 333
In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Volkanovski predicted Evloev would have a career-best performance in his return to the Octagon.
“A big part of his game plan was going to be to fire off the break as well, knowing that I’d get up so again; that game plan was perfect,” Volkanovski of Evloev.
“I thought he would be a little more aggressive on the feet once he knew he couldn’t get the takedown as well… I thought Movsar did a much better job; I thought he still looked great as well. Again, I’m just the wrong guy. This is going to be hard for people to understand or believe; if that Movsar fought anyone else in the division, he walks through them.
“It’s just, I’m a different guy,” Volkanovski continued. “I believe that was the best Movsar that there was, people probably won’t get that but I believe that, it’s just I’m a nightmare matchup for him. Watch his next fight, and watch, it will be his best performance to date, remember I said that.”
