As per usual, the great Josh Frey — one of my all-time favorite people — sent along a picks piece for Vikings Territory. Consider Mr. Frey’s work if you’re interested in looking into a crystal ball.

The concern here is is more prescriptive rather than being predictive. Put differently, I’m checking out the NFL schedule to see how Vikings fans ought to cheer in Week 4. As a general rule, I don’t like telling people what to do. All things being equal, go ahead and live your life. Allow me to violate that impulse by offering a take on how you — the Vikings fan, presumably — should cheer.

The NFL Schedule
How Vikings Fans Should Cheer

Pittsburgh Steelers at Cleveland Browns

Somehow, Aaron Rodgers is the preferable pick even if many in Minnesota — or the whole world, perhaps — feel queasy at the thought. Alas, Rodgers has found a way to disappoint everyone, as is his wont.

Indianapolis Colts at Washington Commanders

Going to say the Colts due to the presence of all-world dancer Camryn Bynum. God bless you, Mr. Bynum.

Arizona Cardinals at New York Giants

Go for the Giants, people. After all, the J.J. McCarthy trade means that New York now has the young passer in town. I, for one, want to see the kid do well.

New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills

Eh, the Patriots are a mess, a predictable outcome due to overperforming last year alongside the terrible offseason for Mike Vrabel. Buffalo time. Seeing that team win the Super Bowl would mean that Minnesota could do it someday.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Cincinnati Bengals

Ja’Marr Chase is in a sort of subtle, sort of not subtle rivalry with Justin Jefferson. Pull for the Jags.

Dallas Cowboys at Houston Texans

Most enjoy cheering against the Cowboys. I won’t tell you not to indulge in a bit of football schadenfreude. Go Texans! DeMeco Ryans and Danielle Hunter are both underrated and awesome.

New York Jets at Chicago Bears

J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS.

Green Bay Packers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Seeing Green Bay lose this one would be stunning. The Bucs are a winless team turning toward a rookie UDFA to start at quarterback after Baker Mayfield succumbed to injury against the Vikings. Cheer for the Buccaneers, folks, and watch Wisconsin meltdown (and not in the delectable melty cheese manner).

Tennessee Titans at Baltimore Ravens

Ravens.

Los Angeles Rams at Philadelphia Eagles

Tough one, folks. I’ll say the Rams since the Eagles appear close to becoming a kingdom divided against itself. Internal division is the absolute best way to see a formidable force lose its status atop a hierarchy.

Miami Dolphins at Minnesota Vikings

Moving on.

Kansas City Chiefs at Las Vegas Raiders

Kirk Cousins in Sin City is the answer.

Los Angeles Chargers at Seattle Seahawks

Many don’t like Jim Harbaugh. Many seem to have forgotten that Minnesota almost hired Jim Harbaugh before pivoting toward Kevin O’Connell. Cheer for the Seahawks even if it’s bad for the Vikings’ playoff outlook.

Denver Broncos at San Francisco 49ers

The Broncos have Sean Payton as the head coach. Go ahead and make your choice.

Detroit Lions at Carolina Panthers

The Panthers are a harmless football team. Carolina it is.

Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints

Part of me fees bad for Kevin Stefanski. He’s a good coach. Fly Falcons Fly! Do they say that in Atlanta?
