There is no better WR2 in the NFL than Stefon Diggs. Source? Him. Diggs used his YouTube channel last week to promote himself in the summer free-agent market after getting no nibbles since the process began in March.
Diggs has navigated choppy legal waters in 2026, but after being found not guilty of strangulation in Massachusetts, he’s evidently ready to play this season — and doesn’t think too many wideouts are better than him.
Diggs: I Can Be the Best WR2 in the NFL
Never shy about sharing his opinion, Diggs said, “My opinion, I can compete with anybody. But take those top wide receivers as your 1s, right? You can’t name a No. 2 better than me. There’s not a No. 2 on a team — let’s presumably give people the credit and just say, ‘OK, you want to take the No. 1 spot away.”
“Name your No. 2 receiver right now, and tell me how much he makes, and then my last question is: Is he better than me? I brought myself here. Unfortunate at times, but I’m blessed. I’m going to be exactly where I’m supposed to be. … I’ll be fine, I know I’ll be fine.”
NFL training camps get cracking in about two weeks, and Diggs could be the first prominent WR on many teams’ speed dial if one of their playmakers goes down with an injury. He’s Not Lying. Maybe Exaggerating, but Not Lying.
The thing about Diggs’s take is that it isn’t out of left field. Other WR2s, like Tee Higgins and even Jordan Addison, are more productive and youthful in talent than he is, but he’s no slouch, despite being well into his 30s.
Diggs amassed 85 receptions, 1,013 yards, and 4 touchdowns in New England last season, a fantastic first act with the Patriots and a vital piece of New England’s otherwise underwhelming weapons corps. Of course, this offseason, the Patriots have shown no serious signs of wanting Diggs back — maybe it’s the legal malarkey — but he very much played the part of WR1 and proved he can post WR2 numbers.
He finished eighth among wide receivers in Total EPA with 98.65, a testament to his value despite a relatively light workload compared to other WR1s. He ran only 421 routes, considerably fewer than many players ranked above him. Nevertheless, Diggs still surpassed 1,000 receiving yards and caught an impressive 83.33% of his targets.
Possible Destinations
Based on Diggs’s past ties to coaches and general managers, in addition to his hometown, this list of destinations could move the needle for his eventual landing spot: If he landed in Miami or Las Vegas, Diggs would instantly become that team’s WR1. Other spots, like the Ravens and Commanders, would provide proximity to his hometown. Or, if he prefers to win a Super Bowl, squads like the Ravens, Lions, or Patriots would make sense.
His next employer will likely sign him in a range of $10 million or $12 million.
Diggs said last month about the possibility of signing with the Commanders, “I never realized how many fans there was back home until I was a free agent and people are like, ‘Are you going to come back home?’ Especially when they see me back here. I’ve been living here for my whole life. I’ve been living here for 10 years. They was just like, ‘Oh, we never see you.’ I was like, man, y’all wasn’t looking.”
“It’s a lot of hopes. We’re kind of figuring out, working through some things. I did have a small piece of me like, damn, it would be great to come home and play and play in front of the fans I used to play in front of as a young adolescent in college and just kind of doing something for the city. That definitely would be a moment. Hopefully, things do work out. We’ll see how it goes, but I’m kind of open right now.”
Vikings Not on the List
Not long ago this offseason, Diggs to Minnesota felt like a real thing. The Vikings employed Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and Tai Felton as their three main wideouts. But after April’s draft, Minnesota signed Jauan Jennings to a one-year deal, killing the reunion theory altogether. The Vikings no longer have room for Diggs unless they want to get unholy deep at wide receiver, which just doesn’t feel likely.
Vikings fans should take solace in the Jennings signing, though, as Jefferson, Addison, and Jennings represent the club’s best wide receiving threesome on paper since Randy Moss, Cris Carter, and Jake Reed.
Diggs will turn 33 in November.
