It was Christmas Day in 1958, and Henderson’s mom was within the again seat of an Oldsmobile rushing towards a Chicago hospital, unexpectedly caught in a race towards her son’s arrival. Rickey was too fast—a dramatic opening act that proved prophetic for the remainder of his life.
